Stone Town

The main port city dates back to the 1400s where the Portuguese settled and used the island as a key port in their era of exploration. Later ruled by the Sultan of Oman, it remained an important source of exotic spices and most notoriously known for its slave trade.

Now a stay in the historic city of Zanzibar, nicknamed Stone Town because many of the buildings are created from coral stone, can bring visitors a sense of what it must have been like some centuries back.

Zanzibar features a variety of accommodation choices.
